Starting School
It’s hard to believe that the time has come again to make preparations to welcome our new children into Reception this September. We have compiled this checklist to let our new parents know what is happening in the coming weeks.
Getting ready for September – New Parents Check List 2016
New Parent’s Meeting – 21 June 2016 at 5.30pm
Parents to meet St. Columba’s staff, enjoy a tour of the school and collect our New Starter Pack’.
Parents also sign up for home visits from Mrs Lewis (Reception Class Teacher) and Miss Craig (Reception Class Teaching Assistant).
Nursery Visits – Tuesday 28th June, Wednesday 29th June and Thursday 30th June
Mrs Lewis will be contacting nurseries directly to arrange to visit children in their current nursery setting and speak to Key Workers
Home visits – Tuesday 5th July, Wednesday 6th July and Thursday 7th July
Mrs Lewis and Miss Craig will visit children at home with their family and speak to parent/s or carer/s about starting school. Please feel free to share any concerns or worries that you may have including medical information etc.
School visits – Monday 4th July
New parents should have already received a letter from school allocating their child a place in either Group 1 or Group 2. Children will visit school for either a morning session from 9.45 til 11.30am or an afternoon session from 1.30 til 3.00pm.
These visits will give the children an opportunity to get to know the school and to meet Mrs Lewis and the other Foundation Stage members of staff. They will have the opportunity to play and explore the Reception class and hopefully meet and make some new friends.
We look forward to meeting you all soon!
Some useful information for new parents:
This document contains some very useful information about what it means to be ‘School Ready’ but please refer to it as a general guide only. Please remember that at St. Columba’s we value and respect every child as a unique individual and appreciate that children may all have different starting points, strengths and weaknesses. This is after all, what makes children so very special!
