Operation Encompass is a police and education safeguarding partnership that ensures schools are notified before the next school day if police attend a domestic abuse incident involving a child.
How it Works
- Early Notification: Police share brief information with a trained school staff member – known as the Key Adult of Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) – prior to the start of the next school day.
- Target Children: This applies if a child under 18 witnessed, was present or was otherwise affected by domestic abuse connected to their household.
- Immediate Support: The school's DSL uses this information to provide a safe, understanding and supportive environment for the child from the moment they arrive.
