COMPUTING 

Computing skills are developed throughout the school, as its own subject, and often in conjunction with other subjects to further develop essential, everyday skills. We follow the NCEE planning, making links to topics within each classroom where possible. 

The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure all pupils:

• can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation (Computer science)
• can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems (Computer science)
• can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems (Information technology)
• are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology. (Digital literacy)

We take part in several STEM activities and competitions throughout the year to develop essential skills, such as the First Lego League and involvement with STEM Cumbria (robotics, programming drones, electronics, bee-bots and electricity).

The school has a laptop trolley with 30 laptops/converted chromebooks and 150+ individual iPads to be used in the classrooms to support and enhance learning from Years 2-6. We also have several laptops within each classroom, plus other technologies to enhance learning - Bee-Bots/ Lego MindStorm robots for example.

The school has Smartboard TVs and visualisers in every room so that children can use ICT to enhance learning in all subjects.

We have our own website, Facebook and Twitter pages. We also forge home/school learning links with Google Classroom, Tapestry and Class Dojo.
