THE CURRICULUM

Through the Curriculum children are encouraged to develop their social, religious, physical, aesthetic and moral potential.

Our curriculum in all its aspects reflects that Christ is at the centre and is the foundation of the whole educational process. The beliefs and values communicated through all activities should be based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.

The curriculum is the means by which the school achieves its objective of educating children in the knowledge, skills and understanding that they need, in order to lead fulfilling lives.

We try to ensure that the children receive a balanced, broad and relevant curriculum.

The children are placed in class according to age group. Programmes of work are followed which meet the needs of each individual child.

Foundation Stage -

The Early Learning Goals are the basis for this stage in the Curriculum. These goals are :

  1. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  2. Communication, Language and Literacy
  3. Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  4. Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  5. Physical Development
  6. Creative Development

The teaching and learning in Early Years builds on what children already know and can do. It consists of purposeful and carefully structured activities both indoors and outdoors. Throughout the year the teachers of Foundation Stage will collect information to complete the Foundation Stage Profile in June. This will be based on observations and assessments over all 6 areas of learning.

Year 1 and Year 2 - this age range in National Curriculum terms is known as Key Stage 1. These classes continue to put great emphasis on first hand learning experiences and the social development of the children. Have a look in our work gallery to see what we do.

Year 3 - 6 - These years are known as Key Stage 2 Classes. National Curriculum subjects are taught using a variety of methods and organisational strategies. The work covered in these subjects is largely based on the QCA Schemes of Work. As in Key Stage One curriculum maps are drawn up for each year group and subject. (Look in the Our School section of the site for copies of curriculum maps)
